Flange Packing
Monarch-McLaren flange packings are precision-manufactured leather sealing rings designed to prevent the passage of fluid, debris, and contaminants along rotating or reciprocating shafts and piston rods. Whether installed in low-pressure external interfaces or moderate service conditions, leather flange packings deliver durable, reliable sealing performance.
Typical Applications
Flange packings are commonly used in valves, pumps, stuffing boxes, and other mechanical interfaces where shaft or rod penetration must be sealed against leakage. They are also favored in legacy and restoration applications where traditional materials are specified.
Material & Impregnation Options
Monarch-McLaren offers flange packings in natural leather that can be impregnated with Thiokol, silicone, wax, or oil to enhance abrasion resistance, chemical tolerance, and temperature performance. Our Thiokol impregnation process is internationally recognized for creating leather seals that withstand challenging environments.
Key Benefits
- Custom sizes from ½″ up to 36″ or larger available on request.
- Flexible and conformable to irregular surfaces.
- Excellent abrasion and wear resistance.
- High strength under side loads.
Why Leather Matters in Flange Packing
Leather’s unique fiber network provides a natural balance of pliability and toughness, allowing flange packings to maintain sealing contact without cold flow or significant creep even under fluctuating service conditions.
